CMT and CBS have announced that the 2023 CMT Music Awards will air on Sunday 2nd April (from 8-11PM, ET/PT) live from Austin, Texas’ Moody Center for the first time ever. Excitingly, the nominations have now been revealed, with Bell Bottom Country star, Lainey Wilson, leading the way with four.
Cody Johnson picks up three nods, while Luke Combs, HARDY, Bailey Zimmerman and Morgan Wallen receive two apiece, as does 2023 CMT Awards co-host, Kelsea Ballerini.
Rising country star, Megan Moroney, has also been nominated for two awards, CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year and Breakthrough Female Video of the Year.
The most coveted award is aways the CMT Video of the Year category, which originally had sixteen stellar 2023 entries, before being whittled down to just six.
The six remaining candidates for the big prize are HARDY and Lainey Wilson's ‘wait in the truck’, Cody Johnson's ‘Human’, Morgan Wallen's ‘You Proof’, Blake Shelton's ‘No Body’, Carrie Underwood's ‘Hate My Heart’ and Kane and Katelyn Brown's ‘Thank God’.
A star-studded array of performers have been confirmed for the 2023 awards show, including Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Carly Pearce and Carrie Underwood.
Also set to perform are this year's co-hosts, Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, with Brown due to take the stage alongside his wife for a powerful rendition of their chart-topping single, ‘Thank God’.
The RAM Trucks Side-Stage will be showcasing a suite of rising country stars, including Megan Moroney, Nate Smith, Avery Anna, Jackson Dean, Chapel Hart and Lily Rose.
More recently, the newly solo Tyler Hubbard and the ‘Son of a Sinner’ hitmaker, Jelly Roll, have been confirmed as performing at the 2023 CMT Awards, along with another hotly anticipated collaboration between Wynonna and Ashley McBryde. Darius Rucker will also join up with The Black Crowes for a special performance.
Paramount Global’s signature country music tentpole will return for the global premiere exclusively via the CBS Television Network, and will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
The only entirely fan-voted for awards in country music, 2023's event will be co-hosted by country superstar Kelsea Ballerini for the third consecutive year. The award-winning songwriter, producer and performer recently released her critically-acclaimed post-divorce EP, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat. She will also appear as part of the historic concert event 'The Judds: Love Is Alive - The Final Concert', premiering in March 2023 on CMT.
Celebrated for its high-powered, world-premiere and cross-genre performances, the CMT Music Awards have aired live since 2005. “Our fans are in for an unforgettable night of music with plenty of surprises, as the Live Music Capital meets Music City for the first time ever on a national stage in what will be a true country music extravaganza", shared Executive Producers Margaret Comeaux, John Hamlin, Leslie Fram and Jason Owen.
