We can usually count on the CMT Awards to produce some eye-catching and often eyebrow-raising collaborations - but this year, they've really outdone themselves.
Viewers were able to witness Carly Pearce and Gwen Stefani taking the stage together for a high-energy rendition of No Doubt's classic anthem, ‘Just A Girl’.
Pearce and Stefani became good pals while on tour with Blake Shelton, Stefani's husband, and their genre-blending collaboration was one of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the ceremony.
‘Just A Girl’ is an uplifting female empowerment anthem, and was originally released back in 1995.
Pearce and Stefani's lively rendition of the hit single had most of the Texas crowd on their feet, with the dynamic duo performing against an effervescent backdrop.
Earlier in the evening, Pearce provided a spellbinding performance of her recent Country Radio No. 1 single, ‘What He Didn't Do’.
It served as the antithesis of her Gwen Stefani collaboration, with Pearce stripping it all back for her solo set.
The chart-topping track details all the ways in which Pearce's ex failed to be the person she hoped he'd be, and has become one of the most recognisable tracks from the Kentucky native's stellar 29: Written in Stone album.
Carly Pearce recently released a live version of the project, which features her blockbuster collaboration with Ashley McBryde, ‘Never Wanted To Be That Girl’.
After seeing Pearce's moving performance of ‘What He Didn't Do’ at the 2023 CMT Awards, viewers will no doubt be flocking to her new live album for more of the same.
