When Charles Wesley Godwin was unveiled as one of Big Loud's latest signings, the exciting news was accompanied with a teaser that ‘new music’ was on the way.
During an Instagram Live, Big Loud's CEO, Seth England, revealed the title of Wesley Godwin’s eagerly awaited third album would be ‘Family Ties’, named after a song he teased in May 2022.
In early August, Charles revealed the new project will be arriving on all platforms on September 22, accompanying the announcement by making four songs immediately available, ‘All Again’, ‘Cue Country Roads’, ‘West of Lonesome’ and the album's title-track.
An array of Charles’ previously teased demos will feature on Family Ties, including the heartwarming ode to his daughter, ‘Dance in Rain’, and the high-energy tribute to his mother, ‘The Flood’, both of which Wesley Godwin performed during his 2023 Holler Live Session.
It's evident both from the title of the upcoming project and the songs he's been sharing that Charles Wesley Godwin's new album will pivot around the theme of family.
His endearing, evocative ballad penned in honour of his son, ‘Gabriel’, will also make its way onto the Family Ties tracklist, along with ‘Miner Imperfections’, which finds the soulful crooner celebrating all the lessons he's learnt from his father.
Other fan-favourite unreleased songs that'll appear on Charles Wesley Godwin's new album include ‘10-38’, ‘Skyline Blues’ and ‘Willing and Able’. In addition, Family Ties will feature a cover of John Denver's classic anthem, ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’, which Charles regularly performs as part of his 2023 setlist.
In June, Charles Wesley Godwin confirmed he'd been shooting a couple of music videos, one of which turned out to be the heart-rending set of visuals for ‘All Again’.
Interestingly, both of Charles Wesley Godwin's previously released albums, How The Mighty Fall and Seneca Creek, consisted of 12 songs, but Family Ties is due to be made up of 19 offerings, with Charles sticking to the Big Loud blueprint for lengthy album tracklists.
If it means we get to hear more music from Charles Wesley Godwin, then we're certainly not complaining, and given the strength of his two independent records, it's safe to say we can't wait to hear what the ‘Temporary Town’ songsmith has in store for us.
