The moment we've been waiting for has finally arrived. To fans’ delight, Charles Wesley Godwin has at long last unveiled his new album, Family Ties, which is due to be released on September 22.
The news follows a string of hints and snippets from the West Virginia crooner, and we're glad to see all of his recently shared demos have made their way onto the Family Ties tracklist.
To celebrate the album announcement, Charles has made four tracks immediately available as part of a ‘sampler’ pack to give fans a taste of the new project.
Included in this sampler is ‘All Again’, ‘Family Ties’, ‘Cue Country Roads’ and ‘West of Lonesome’, all of which Charles Wesley Godwin has teased over the past few months. Aptly ‘Cue Country Roads’, which explores the feeling of longing for the faraway comforts, precedes Charles’ cover of ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ on the tracklist.
It's exciting to know we'll be getting a studio version of this track, with the ‘Temporary Town’ songsmith having previously collaborated on a live version of ’Take Me Home, Country Roads’ as part of Zach Bryan's 2022 project, All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster (Live from Red Rocks).
Also set to appear on Family Ties is ‘Willing and Able’ and ‘The Flood’, two more fan-favourite unreleased tracks that Charles Wesley Godwin performed during his recent Holler Live Session.
Speaking ahead of the announcement, Charles Wesley Godwin shed some light on the creative impetus behind the new project, “I had to get back to the basics. I decided I was going to write about my life and my family. It’s where my heart was guiding me: to be super personal and dig right into the weeds of my life”.
Epitomising this approach is Charles’ newly released music video for ‘All Again’, which takes the viewer through a bittersweet journey through one man's ability to find genuine, heartfelt joy in the little moments, despite the looming shadow of inevitability standing on the horizon.
