Rising country-rock star Jelly Roll took to the CMT Awards stage for the first time to deliver a rousing version of his current single, 'Need A Favor.'
Before the show, Jelly Roll teased that during his dress rehearsal of the performance he was brought to tears, saying "we're going to church tonight" - and boy, was he right.
As has been the new protocol wherever Jelly Roll is involved, including at his recent Grand Ole Opry appearance, the Nashville native brought some much welcomed energy to the Moody Center.
Backed by an eerily beautiful choir, Jelly Roll got the packed crowd up and dancing along in one of the night's standout moments.
The deeply honest track tells the all too familiar story of a man with nowhere else to turn looking to God for a favour, even if he may not deserve it.
Marking Jelly Roll's sophomore country single, 'Need A Favor' was shipped out to Country Radio in mid-February and is already sitting at No. 32 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
The tune follows the success of his debut country chart-topper 'Son Of A Sinner,' which earned the first-time CMT Awards nominee a nod in three categories at this year's award, including Male Video of the Year, Breakthrough Male Video of the Year and CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year.
'Need A Favor' will also be included on the singer-songwriter's recently announced debut country album, Whitsitt Chappel.
Slated for release on June 2 through BMG/Stoney Creek Records, the 13-track project will feature a collaboration with fellow nominee and performer Lainey Wilson, as well as Brantley Gilbert and Struggle Jennings.
Later this year, the breakout talent will hit the road later this year on his 44-city Backroad Baptism Tour, kicking off on July 28 at Bank Plus Amphitheater in Southaven, Mississippi.
With only three months of 2023 under his belt, which have already included a No. 1 record, a slot at CRS' coveted 2023 New Faces Show, three nominations at tonight's ceremony and a performance spot to boot, it's quite evident that Jelly Roll is on track to enjoy yet another meteoric year.
