After much speculation, Lainey Wilson has confirmed she'll be sending ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ to Country Radio as the next official single from her acclaimed 2022 record, Bell Bottom Country.
‘Watermelon Moonshine’ is already being tipped by many as a dead-cert No. 1, due to the momentum it's carrying from its 2022 appearance in Yellowstone Season 5.
Lainey, who guest-starred in the new season as ‘Abby’, performed the song in Episode 6, Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You, with a variety of other Bell Bottom Country tracks appearing throughout the series, including ‘New Friends’, ‘Hold My Halo’ and ‘Smell Like Smoke’.
Before Lainey Wilson's announcement that ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ would be impacting Country Radio on May 30, some suspected that the Louisiana native's next single would instead be ‘Grease’. Lainey performed ‘Grease’ at the 2023 ACM Awards earlier in the month, shortly after releasing the song's official music video.
Nonetheless, with its sweet, rose-tinted sound and its warm, nostalgic narrative, ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ seems destined to follow the HARDY-assisted ‘wait in the truck’ and ‘Heart Like A Truck’ as Lainey Wilson's next No. 1 at Country Radio.
Although ‘Grease’ is undoubtedly a more energised and immediately catchy option, the timing seems perfect for ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ to hit its stride, with the hazy, summery feel of the song sure to become a staple of Lainey's setlist during the impending festival season.
