All three artists have spent much of the past few months out on the road together, with HARDY and Ernest serving as support for Wallen's blockbuster 2023 One Night At A Time run of shows.
However, even though the two opening acts were spending the evening away from Morgan Wallen's world tour, they still ensured their good buddy and collaborator was in Nevada in spirit by covering his 2021 anthem, ‘More Than My Hometown’.
All three artists had a hand in writing the wistful earworm, which tells the heartbreaking tale of a protagonist who adores his girlfriend more than almost anything, yet can't bring himself to leave his beloved hometown for her. ‘More Than My Hometown’ was one of the many highlights on Wallen's record-breaking 2021 double-album, Dangerous.
The cleverly constructed track pivots around an addictive hook, with Morgan Wallen's charismatic drawl conveying the perfect blend of regret and resilience, as he underlines to his lover just how deep his roots run (“I ain't the runaway kind, I can't change that / My heart's stuck in these streets like the train tracks”.
Although lacking Wallen's lead vocals, HARDY and Ernest delivered an enchanting rendition of the much-loved song, with the duo's chemistry radiating throughout their performance.
Despite collaborating on a plethora of occasions in the writing room, the two have never featured as vocalists on the same track. Thankfully, it looks like this is about to change, with Ernest confirming earlier in July that HARDY will be appearing on his next album.
In addition, towards the end of 2022, HARDY revealed to Holler that he, Ernest and Morgan Wallen will all collaborate on a song together as lead artists as well as songwriters, stressing that he was surprised this hadn't happened yet, given the fact that the three are such good friends.
We can't wait to hear this long-awaited joint offering, and with the sparks that fly every time these three musical musketeers hit the studio together, we're hoping Morgan Wallen, HARDY and Ernest might even create a whole project together in the not-too-distant future.
