In a new conversation with Baylen Leonard for Holler, Jelly Roll discussed a couple of his dream collaborations and revealed a joint track with his good buddy, Morgan Wallen, is “inevitable”.
Fans have been clamouring for the two country trailblazers to link up for some time now, with both Jelly Roll and Morgan Wallen's inventive infusion of country, hip hop and rock consolidating their role as two of Music City's frontrunners.
Speaking to Baylen, Jelly Roll underlined a collaboration with Morgan Wallen is a case of ‘when’ and not ‘if’, explaining, “I think the thing about Morgan is it's a dream collab for me, but I don't think of it that way because I think it's inevitable”.
The ‘Need A Favor’ hitmaker went on the highlight the close relationship he enjoys with Morgan, and even implied the two have already hit the writing room together, “Our friendship is just going to inevitably end up... [with us] making more songs together and writing together”.
Fans will no doubt be wondering whether Jelly's choice of words here was pointed, with the Nashville native expressing a desire to write “more songs together”. This tantalisingly suggests he's already got one or two tracks with Morgan Wallen up his sleeve.
Ever since his decision to venture away from rap and rock and into the world of country music, Jelly Roll has enjoyed an affinity with the Big Loud trio of Ernest, HARDY and Morgan Wallen.
Jelly co-wrote his first ever Country Radio No. 1, ‘Son Of A Sinner’, with Ernest, and the two teamed up during a recent set at Country Concert 2023 to perform the hit together. Earlier in the year, Ernest delivered a moving speech in honour of Jelly Roll as he presented his pal with the Billboard Breakthrough Artist of the Year award.
Jelly Roll has spoken in the past about how much the Big Loud crew mean to him, and during his conversation with Baylen, he once again emphasised his appreciation for Morgan Wallen, stressing, “He's one of my best friends in the music business”.
It hopefully won't be too long before we get to hear Jelly Roll and Morgan Wallen join forces, and it seems fans might also be able to look forward to hearing duets with Miley Cyrus and Kesha. Elsewhere in his chat with Holler, Jelly cited both as “dream collaborations”.
The revelation comes hot on the heels of the news that Jelly Roll has earned his second ever Country Radio No. 1 with ‘Need A Favor’, with many expecting his Lainey Wilson collaboration, ‘Save Me’, to be his third single to be sent surging up the charts.
