Cody Johnson was the worthy recipient of the title for Best New Country Artist at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, capping off what's been a stellar twelve months for the traditional-leaning Texan.
As well as picking up his trophy, the man warmly known as ‘CoJo’ to his fans also impressed the Los Angeles audience with a high-octane performance of ‘Til You Can't’.
The motivational anthem appears on his 2021 double-album, Human, which also featured fan-favourites such as ‘Honky Tonk Hardwood Floors’ and ‘Longer Than She Did’.
The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards took place in the striking surroundings of LA's Dolby Theatre, with a star-studded array of artists from across a range of genres being recognised during the ceremony, including Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, SZA and more.
As for country music's representatives at the prestigious awards show, Morgan Wallen, Cole Swindell and Luke Combs all joined Cody Johnson in the coveted winners’ circle.
Morgan Wallen came out on top in the Country Artist of the Year category, while Cole Swindell's infectious track, ‘She Had Me At Heads Carolina’, was acknowledged as the Country Song of the Year.
Luke Combs’ celebrated 2021 album, Growin’ Up, took home the trophy for the 2023 iHeartRadio Country Album of the Year.
It was certainly a successful day for Cody Johnson, as he was also revealed to be in the final six contenders for the 2023 CMT Video of the Year award, alongside Morgan Wallen, HARDY & Lainey Wilson, Kane & Katelyn Brown, Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood.
