Nashville's iconic Grand Ole Opry played host to the inaugural People's Choice Country Awards on Thursday night (September 28), bringing country music fans and artists alike to celebrate the greatest accomplishments of 2023, as well as commemorate iconic careers and witness a slew of explosive performances.

The central figure throughout the show was undoubtedly Jelly Roll, who walked away the night's leading winner.

Earlier in the ceremony, the Nashville native – who was not in attendance – was awarded The Collaboration Song of 2023 for his duet with Lainey Wilson, 'Save Me', as well as given the trophy for The Male Artist of 2023.

For the latter, the Grand Ole Opry House and the accompanying NBC broadcast were sent via livestream to Cincinnati, Ohio where Jelly Roll was in the midst of a headlining show on his Backroad Baptism Tour.

Capping off the two-hour broadcast, viewers and attendees were surprised with a performance from the Nashville native live from his tour stop, where he performed his award-winning single, 'Save Me'.

Though Wilson was unable to lend her vocals, seeing as she was in the Grand Ole Opry House, the Cincinnati crowd offered up a choir of voices to accompany the gut-wrenchingly vulnerable song, effectively sending chills down everyone's spines.

While the broadcast had an abrupt conclusion upon the end of Jelly Roll's performance, the singer-songwriter also claimed the awards for The New Artist of 2023 and The Song of 2023 ('Need A Favor') following the show.
