In the midst of another barrage of fierce tweets aimed at Ticketmaster, we saw the gentler side of Zach Bryan that we had grown so accustomed to through his sparse, vulnerable releases this year.

The prolific singer-songwriter posted a snippet of a new, unreleased song to Twitter on Thursday, in which the listener finds Bryan serenading an absent lover, Marie, with a tortured lament.

Bryan's agonised vocals stretch across the strum of a peaceful acoustic guitar, with a steady, jarring drum-beat being introduced - somewhat atypically for the Oklahoma artist - partway through the song.

He captioned the clip with the tragic, closing lyrics, “I was buried by the bluff this evening with a smile and a photo of us”.

Bryan revealed in November that his next studio album would be entitled Writers and Fighters, which is expected to drop around February 2023.

Bryan is also preparing to release a live album, believed to be recorded during his snow-filled set at Red Rocks Amphitheatre earlier in the year.

Some suspect this will be released onto all platforms before 2022 draws to a close, with Bryan teasing the artwork and tracklist for his live project on December 4.

It remains to be seen whether this new snippet will feature on Bryan's 2023 album - he could well be assessing the reaction from his followers before making a judgment.

Even though it was just a few weeks ago when Bryan put out two singles, ‘Fifth of May’ and ‘The Greatest Day of My Life’, it seems that more new releases from the ‘Something in the Orange’ hitmaker are immanent.
