During a conversation with Holler during his time in the UK supporting Cody Johnson, Parker McCollum has opened up about his love for Miranda Lambert. McCollum and Lambert released ‘Sante Fe’ in 2024, before teaming up again this year for a reimagined version of Rosanne Cash's much-loved song, ‘Seven Year Ache’.
McCollum spent the early years of his career eschewing duets - bar for ‘Love’ with his buddy, Koe Wetzel - but in more recent years, he's been embracing the spirit of collaboration.
The ‘Pretty Heart’ hitmaker underlines what a privilege it is whenever he gets the chance to join forces with Lambert, “I feel like an actual star when I get to work with her. Just so unbelievably talented. Stone-cold songwriter. Texas girl...Country music icon”.
McCollum fondly pays tribute to Lambert, “She's a dear friend of mine, and anytime I get to work with her...it reminds me how lucky I am to get to work with talent like that”.
Given how beautifully McCollum and Lambert's vocals sound together on these duets, we're hoping the two Texas trailblazers have plans to return to the studio before too long.
McCollum has made a point of showing love to his fellow Texans throughout his career, epitomised by his close friendship with Wetzel. The duo are embarking on tour again this December, and continue to tease a follow-up collaboration to 2016's ‘Love’. Similarly, he's currently performing his first ever UK shows on-tour with CoJo.
But even though he has made a habit of tipping his caps to other Texas artists, it feels different when he speaks about Lambert, with McCollum clearly holding a deep reverence for her.
It's heartwarming to see McCollum acknowledging Lambert's rightful status as one of the greats of modern country. Hopefully we get to see them perform together again soon.
