According to reports, Eric Church's Chief's on Broadway bar in Nashville is removing Morgan Wallen's infamous chair-throwing plaque, as they make room for Kygo's Palm Tree Club.
The arrival of the global chart-topping DJ's new space, which will open its doors on September 4th, has led to Chief's briefly closing its rooftop for renovations This reportedly means that, as Kygo's Palm Tree Club team oversee the adaptations and adjustments to Chief's rooftop area, they are removing Wallen's sign.
The sign has become into something of a tourist attraction ever since it was installed following Walen's notorious chair-throwing incident. Wallen was arrested in April 2024 after being accused of hurling a chair off the roof of Chief's. The Chief's team didn't miss a beat, quickly putting up a plaque at the scene of the incident, playfully reading, “Don't even think about it. You are not Morgan Wallen”.
Chief's has continued to lean into the lore surrounding that bizarre incident, with Church's much-loved bar even releasing special cocktails called ‘The Chair’, inspired by Wallen's high-profile debacle and featuring a miniature chair on top of the drink.
A host of fans will no doubt be somewhat disappointed at the prospect of this plaque disappearing, with the sign marking a major moment in the modern country music canon.
Numerous Wallen supporters would flock to the Chief's on Broadway rooftop just to get their picture taken next to the sign, with its temporary removal back in November 2024 being met with widespread outrage, before it was reinstalled shortly after.
This new apparent removal, though, is believed to be a permanent one, with Kygo's summery Palm Tree Club lined up a new event space, rather than a fleeting pop-up bar.
Shortly after the launch of the Palm Tree Club in Chief's, on September 12th, there will be a special grand opening event featuring a set from Kygo himself. Attendees can look forward to hearing some of the Norwegian phenom's most iconic hits, such as ‘Firestone’ and ’Higher Love’. With Kygo continuing to dip his toes into the country sphere, with recent collaborations with the likes of Carter Faith, Max McNown and Dan Tyminski, we're hoping we might get to hear some country-EDM - or YeeDM, if you will - remixes during his Palm Tree Club Nashville set.
