EDM DJ Kygo is continuing his exciting foray into country-leaning textures via a brand new collaboration with bluegrass legend Dan Tyminski, ‘On Your Mind’. The song serves as a moving tribute to the late great Avicii, one of Kygo's biggest influences.

Tyminski provided the vocals for Avicii's groundbreaking 2013 hit, ‘Hey Brother’. The infectious anthem, which has over one billion streams on Spotify, was one of the first songs to blur the lines between the modern EDM wave and country music.

Kygo has expressed his admiration for Avicii on a number of occasions, releasing a special tribute version of the latter's song, ‘Forever Yours’, with Sandro Cavazza in 2020.

Kygo's ‘On Your Mind’ has been circulating online for the best part of a year, with the ‘Firestone’ hitmaker sharing a demo in 2025, but with Cavazza's vocals instead of Tyminski's. With this new version featuring Tyminksi, some fans were worried this might indicate bad blood between Kygo and Cavazza, especially after rumours that they unfollowed each other a few months back. Thankfully, it seems it's all love between them, with Cavazza commenting heart emojis on the new post.

‘On Your Mind’ is expected to be the next single from Kygo's eagerly awaited follow-up to his spellbinding 2024 self-titled studio album, and comes hot on the heels of another country-infused link-up, this time with Carter Faith, for ‘That's When You Know’.

Given how deeply Avicii's innovative, soaring melodies and unique blends of country, folk, house and more have helped shape Kygo's own sound, it's hard to think of a more fitting artist to be paying homage to the late Swedish titan with Tyminski in this way.

Avicii was renowned for his ability to bring in styles from different worlds and make them coalesce with surprising ease, something epitomised on his latest posthumous single, ’Let's Ride Away’, which was penned with Kacey Musgraves and features Elle King.

Back in 2013, for instance, Avicii delivered one of the most game-changing sets in modern EDM history, when he shut down his deck and instead brought out Aloe Blacc and a group of bluegrass instrumentalists to perform the live debut of ‘Wake Me Up’.

He was met with a chorus of boos from attendees who were expecting thumping beats and electronically-driven hooks, and were instead greeted by an acoustic performance.

But ‘Wake Me Up’, of course, went on to become one of the most popular songs of the century so far, and is one of the few songs to have been RIAA-certified Diamond.

Avicii always had a penchant for country, teaming up with Zac Brown on a couple of occasions, and we're glad to see Kygo carrying on the legacy of his friend's pioneering work. There's no release date for ‘On Your Mind’ yet, but judging by how sleek and uplifting this newly unveiled snippet sounds, we're hoping it's very soon.
