Morgan Wallen has taken to socials to share a new unreleased song snippet, seemingly entitled, ‘Come Back As a Redneck’, with fans already clamouring for the Sneedville native to include the reflective offering on his hotly anticipated 2024 album.

The clip, which Morgan Wallen has posted to his Instagram page, is a video recording of what appears to be Morgan's laptop, as the song plays through the speakers.

The track finds the ‘Everything I Love’ hitmaker sat in traffic and glancing to his right to notice ‘Mr City Man’, with a Rolex and his eyes glued to the NASDAQ stock report.

As the man rolls his eyes at Morgan's dusty old truck and his rough-around-the-edges appearance, the singer-songwriter croons wistfully about how he hopes he is reborn as a redneck when he dies, so that he can understand his perspective on life.

It's pervaded by a touching message about not being judgemental and looking down on those that live a different way of life to us, with ‘Come Back As a Redneck’ being underpinned by Morgan's fiery, defiant pride at his Southern upbringing.

He injects a sense of ferocity into his drawl as he lists the various experiences this ‘City Man‘ has no understanding of, such as ‘hooking up a winch’ and ‘catching the Holy Spirit on a pinewood bench’, which in turn means he has no right to criticize them.

Morgan outlines, “If this red light didn't have to change / I'd have time to say / When you die I hope you come back as a redneck / I hope it sticks on you like that hell-hot sun tattoo / I hope you break your back for that barely-get-by pay-check”.

‘Come Back As a Redneck’ again feels more stripped-back compared to much of Morgan's 2023 project, One Thing At A Time, with his signature vocals gliding across an intricate, sinuous acoustic guitar instrumental and a simple, deliberate beat.

It follows ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’ and ‘I Guess’ in a string of unreleased song snippets teased by Morgan over the past few weeks, with the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper currently readying his 2024 studio album. He started recording the project at the end of February, so it seems we can look forward to a slew of further snippets and clips in the months to come, with a lead single hopefully on the horizon.
