It looks like Morgan Wallen will need to make room on his already-stacked wall of awards for another two Platinum plaques.
The Sneedville native's much-loved Mother's Day single, ‘Thought You Should Know’, has now been certified Double-Platinum, while another of Wallen's 2022 singles, ‘Don't Think Jesus’, has gone Platinum.
Both tracks were released in the lead-up to the country megastar's record-breaking 2023 project, One Thing At A Time, which has since become the longest-running album of the decade so far.
‘Thought You Should Know’, which Wallen penned alongside Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon, is a heartwarming ode to his mother, and finds the ‘You Proof’ hitmaker exploring more vulnerable thematic territory. It remains a staple of Wallen's setlist this year, while Miranda Lambert has started incorporating it into hers too, following the ballad's explosion in popularity over the past year or so.
‘Don't Think Jesus’ again finds Morgan Wallen at his stripped-back, unguarded best, with Wallen showcasing his unrivalled ability to build out and draw in his vocal delivery in accordance with the various ebbs and flows of the evocative track.
Although not one of his most radio-friendly songs by any means, many listeners still cite ‘Don't Think Jesus’ as the keystone on One Thing At A Time, as it's arguably the most open and soul-baring track Wallen has released so far.
Despite not having a writing credit on ’Don't Think Jesus’, Morgan Wallen reportedly broke down in tears upon hearing the song for the first time, which was crafted with him in mind by Jessi Alexander, Chase McGill and Mark Holman.
These latest Platinum certifications follow hot on the heels of another array of new plaques for Morgan Wallen, for ‘Thinkin’ Bout Me‘, ‘98 Braves’, ‘You Proof’ and more. In addition, Wallen's blockbuster 2021 album, Dangerous, was certified six-times Platinum last week.
