The playful, infectious track will impact Country Radio on August 7, and Moroney and her team will be hoping ‘I'm Not Pretty’ will emulate the chart-topping success of ‘Tennessee Orange’.
‘Tennessee Orange’, which remains the Georgia native's most recognisable song to date, became Megan Moroney's first ever No. 1 at Country Radio last month. The cleverly constructed, football-themed ballad has become one of the break-out hits of the year, with Moroney continuing to use it as her set finale throughout her 2023 shows.
‘I'm Not Pretty’ was released ahead of Megan Moroney's acclaimed 2023 album, Lucky, with the light-hearted single being made available everywhere on February 10.
On the upbeat track, Megan Moroney steps into the shoes of an ex finding out that her previous boyfriend's new girlfriend has been taking a virtual stroll through her Instagram account. She's caught red-handed when she accidentally likes an old photo of Moroney on spring break, which serves as the catalyst for the rest of the song.
The country prodigy goes on to imagine that the ex-girlfriend must be “Tearing me down, passing the phone around / Like there's nothing better to talk about / Zooming out, Zooming in, overanalyzin' / Like the queen of the mean girls' committee”.
Then, we get the tongue-in-cheek final lyric of the hook, during which Moroney delivers the off-hand punchline with a wink, “But hey, whatever helps / Keep on telling yourself / I'm not pretty”.
Before ‘I'm Not Pretty’ was unveiled as Megan Moroney's new single via her Instagram stories, some critics and commentators were wondering whether another Lucky fan-favourite, ‘Traitor Joe’, would be given its chance to shine on Country Radio instead.
Nonetheless, listeners are celebrating the news that ‘I'm Not Pretty’ will be the next single to vie for the top spot on the Country Radio charts. It's safe to say a number of artists inside the current Top Ten will begin to look anxiously over their shoulder come August 7.
