Luke Combs has extended his unprecedented run of No. 1s by notching up his 15th chart-topper this week with ‘Going, Going, Gone’.
The wistful ode to a runaway lover hit the top spot on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, usurping Morgan Wallen's ‘Thought You Should Know’.
Although ‘Going, Going, Gone’ is taken from Combs’ 2022 record, Growin’ Up, its success injects an added sense of pace into the hitmaker's new album rollout.
Gettin’ Old is due to be released on March 24, and will feature the already released singles, ‘Joe’, ‘Love You Anyway’ and ‘Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old’, with ‘Five Leaf Clover’ set to drop on March 17.
Since the North Carolina native stormed onto the scene in 2016 with his debut single, ‘Hurricane’, he's maintained a steady dominance over the business-end of the country charts.
The fact that ‘Going, Going, Gone’ has overtaken ‘Thought You Should Know’ in a chart-topping battle of the ballads is particularly impressive, especially given the latter's boost from Morgan Wallen's new album, One Thing At A Time, which continues to break streaming records.
With Combs and Wallen being considered by many to be the biggest artists in country music right now, this latest chart skirmish serves as a precursor to the release of Comsbs’ Gettin’ Old on March 24.
With Morgan Wallen's One Thing At A Time setting up camp at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Billboard's Top Country Albums charts, many suspect Combs may struggle to dislodge Wallen's 36-song project when his record drops later this month.
