Jelly Roll has had one hell of a year. Seemingly overnight the artist went from being a niche artist with a cult-like following to a national treasure. His sincerity, both as an artist and a human, has made him a household name.
As a first-time nominee, Jelly Roll has secured five nominations joining artists like Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. This is not lost on him, though, with Jelly Roll commenting “Unreal to see my name next to some of these greats.”
Jelly Roll’s Whitsitt Chapel ignited something inside of country fans with its sincerity, honesty and grit. As the world embraced his introspection, Jelly Roll released a documentary and embarked on a nationwide tour. All of this led to his nominations of New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
Similarly, his sophomore single, ‘Need A Favor,’ seemed almost inescapable this year. It’s this track that has garnered Jelly Roll two nominations for both Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year. The lead single was a breakout hit, making its way to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
On the other hand, ‘Save Me’, which features megastar Lainey Wilson, gets a deserving nod for Musical Event of the Year.
The 2023 CMA Awards are due to take place on Wednesday, November 8 in Nashville, with Luke Combs looking to defend his title as Entertainer of the Year against an array of challengers that includes the likes of Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood.
At the other end of the spectrum, many artists will arrive in Music City with their first ever nomination under their belt, including Megan Moroney, The War and Treaty and Zach Bryan.
