One thing that has always stuck out in Morgan Wallen's career is the fact he has never collaborated with a female artist on one of his songs.
Since he announced his ‘I’m The Problem’ album and tour, Wallen has been dropping little hints about what fans can expect from 37-track record. The ‘Last Night’ singer has teased song titles, snippets of unreleased tracks and now a nod towards who might be featuring on his fourth studio album.
Now, in a response to a fan’s comment on social media, Morgan Wallen has confirmed that the fourth track on the singer's forthcoming studio album I'm The Problem, entitled ‘What I Want’, will be a duet with a female artist.
Speculation is rife amongst fans about just who might be the unrevealed song partner, with many looking to Megan Moroney at this stage. Her recent use of Morgan's now infamous ‘get me to god’s country’ quote on one of her social media posts has given fans hope that it is perhaps a hint that that the pair are working together.
But with Wallen taking three females out on the road with him this year, surely it makes sense to look a little closer to home?
Wallen’s ‘I’m The Problem Tour’ will host performances from powerhouses Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley and Anne Wilson, with fans both hoping and predicting Langley as the most likely to feature.
The 'You Look Like You Love Me' singer already has some strong duets under her belt, having collaborated with Riley Green, Kameron Marlowe and Koe Wetzel in her career. Could Morgan Wallen be the next?
If there's anyone in the queue that Wallen has artistic history with though, it's Miranda Lambert. The pair have frequently written together this past year, the results including the Nicolle Gaylon co-penned 'White Trash With Money', which is as yet released.
With Lambert heading up the main support on the tour, she would certainly be a suitable duet partner for Wallen, even having joined him live at his huge hometown Neyland Stadium show for a particularly beautiful version of 'Thought You Should Know'.
One artist who can't be forgotten is the one female artist who has frequently supported Wallen out on the road these last few years, Lauren Watkins. Having first appeared on the scene sharing some karaoke duties with Wallen at a Christmas party in 2022, maybe now is the time for the pair to lay down a recording for us all to hear.
As one of, if not the, biggest names in modern country music, Wallen has had some notable features including Eric Church, HARDY and Ernest, but ‘What I Want’ will be a career first as his extensive discography doesn’t currently feature any women. With the album dropping on 16th May, we’ve not got too long to wait to find out.
