Ella Langley has responded following Matthew McConaughey, The Last Bison and Jimmy Fallon's bluegrass-inspired cover of her hit single, ‘Choosin’ Texas’, on The Tonight Show.
‘Choosin’ Texas’ has now spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the fourth sole longest running chart-topper in history. And the Lone Star State-inspired anthem is showing no signs of relinquishing its grip on the top spot.
During The Tonight Show’s Audience Suggestion Box (whereby a viewer can make requests to the show), a viewer named Belinda requested Langley's infectious track, prompting Fallon to call on actor and Texan, McConaughey, and The Last Bison.
Underneath the official Instagram clip of the performance, Langley has commented, ‘Omg’, before taking to her Stories to jokingly gush, “I may never recover from this”. This viral moment will surely only help to consolidate the song's position at No. 1.
Their performance felt like a 1950’s performance at the Opry with the show using wooden panelling, deep red staging, a full roots band (featuring Fallon himself playing the wash board) and McConaughey picking up the mandolin, to give it the atmospheric of an old country variety show rather than late night television in 2026.
This ambience feels particularly fitting for a song packed with references to country music history, such as the famous lyric nodding to George Strait’s ‘Amarillo By Morning’.
There is something enchanting about one of the biggest songs in modern country music being celebrated by drawing upon Opry and variety show history in this way, which is how much of the country legends we know today made their name.
