Zach Bryan has shared an unreleased track, ‘I Remember Everything’, as the prolific songsmith continues to record new material for his upcoming album, Writers and Fighters.
The ‘Oklahoma Smokeshow’ singer-songwriter confirmed earlier in the week that he was hitting the studio to put the finishing touches on the hotly anticipated project, and it seems ‘I Remember Everything’ could well be making its way onto the finalised tracklist.
It's a stripped-back, melancholic ballad that finds Zach singing wistfully across an intricate, tentative piano and acoustic guitar. Judging from ‘I Remember Everything’ and other recently teased snippets, the chart-topping artist will be staying true to the sparse, earthy sound that pervaded his previous, Platinum-certified album, American Heartbreak.
Given the fact that Zach Bryan has a plethora of unreleased songs and demos up his sleeve, which he's attempting to narrow down to an eleven-song album, it seems he may still be playing around with different tracklist configurations. Zach's decision to share this latest clip, therefore, may be a way of testing out fans’ responses to ‘I Remember Everything’ in order to gauge whether or not to include it on Writers and Fighters.
Other hopeful candidates for the new project are ‘Deep Satin’, which Zach Bryan has performed while out on the road this year, along with ‘Hey Driver’, ‘Smaller Acts’ and ‘East Side of Sorrow’.
A number of the demos Zach Bryan has posted in recent months have been optimistic, loved-up odes to his previous girlfriend, Deb Peifer. However, now that the two have parted ways, it remains to be seen whether Writers and Fighters will lean into the more regretful, heavy-hearted ambience that underpins ‘I Remember Everything’.
Either way, it's fascinating that Zach Bryan continues to involve his fans at every stage of the creative process for his new album, despite having blossomed into the megastar he now is.
With over thirty unreleased songs jostling for a coveted spot on Writers and Fighters, we can't wait to see which eleven make the cut, if Zach Bryan does indeed stick to his previous announcement that this will be the length of the new project.
