The Oklahoma songsmith has teased a brand new track, speculatively entitled ‘Hey Driver’, which Zach Bryan performed in-between tour-stops alongside a couple of his band-members.
Over some easy, melancholic strumming, Zach Bryan conveys his disenchantment with the pace of modern life, crooning, “Hey driver, I'm so tired / Of the weight of this old world”.
The singer-songwriter pines for a return to the countryside and longs for “a road that's a little bit winding”. Although clearly communicating Zach's feeling of frustration, ‘Hey Driver’ is underpinned by a quiet sense of hope that he can find internal peace in a rural idyll.
Sonically, it follows in the sparse, stripped-back footsteps of other recently teased tracks, such as ‘Tradesman’ and his hotly anticipated collaboration with husband-and-wife duo, The War and Treaty.
With Zach Bryan now having a plethora of unreleased demos in his arsenal, and with the ‘Oklahoma Smokeshow’ hitmaker having confirmed his new album will only be eleven songs long, it seems many of these tracks will fail to make the cut.
We'll certainly be hoping that ‘Hey Driver’ is among those that to be included on the Writers and Fighters tracklist. Given the fact that Zach has teased a different snippet of ‘Hey Driver’ in the past on TikTok, it certainly seems he's testing the waters ahead of a potential release.
