Zach Bryan's Buckeye Country Superfest set received an unexpected interruption on Saturday night, when the Oklahoma singer-songwriter was forced to briefly halt his performance of ’Something in the Orange’ to deal with a spider-related emergency.
As he began to deliver the spine-tingling chorus of his hugely popular 2022 ballad, Zach caught a glance of a creepy-crawly scurrying across his shoulder, and promptly stepped away from the microphone as he frantically attempted to brush the spider away.
When he returned to the mic, with his band in fits of laughter, Zach grinned sheepishly as he apologised to the crowd, “There was a spider on me, I'm really sorry. So so sorry. It was climbing toward my neck so I had to get it, or I wouldn't have done it, I promise”.
It was an amusing, light-hearted interlude to the poignant, soul-baring track, and it's safe to say we'd have been far less chill if we had a huge spider crawling over our shoulder.
Elsewhere during his enchanting performance, Zach Bryan reeled off hits such as ‘Dawns’, ‘Nine Ball’, ‘East Side of Sorrow’, ‘I Remember Everything’, ‘Burn, Burn, Burn’, ‘Hey Driver’ and more. Later in the sprawling set, Zach brought out bluegrass phenom Billy Strings for a dazzling guitar solo during his raucous ‘Revival’ finale.
While his spider-hampered performance of ’Something in the Orange’ - which, despite being Zach Bryan's biggest song to date, does not always make it into his setlist - received the biggest reaction from the packed out Columbus, Ohio crowd, Buckeye Country Superfest 2024 attendees were also delighted to see Zach treating them to a live rendition of his unreleased track, ’The Great American Bar Scene’.
The song is set to feature on his new studio album of the same name, which drops on July 4th, with Zach previewing the hotly anticipated project across 23 bars in the coming weeks.
