It's safe to say Zach Bryan has hit a creative hot streak following the ‘Revival’ hitmaker's high-profile, contentious break-up with BFF's podcast host, Brianna LaPaglia, in late October.
After sharing snippets of unreleased demos such as ‘All Good Things Past’ and ‘Rockaway’ last week, Zach Bryan returned to Instagram to offer a clip of another new track, ‘Motorbreath’. Since then, he has released ‘This World's A Giant’ on Thursday, November 7th, as well as confirming plans to drop another new song on Friday, November 8th. With Zach sharing a second clip of ‘Motorbreath’ via his Instagram Stories shortly after the arrival of ‘This World's A Giant’, we're keeping our fingers crossed that ‘Motorbreath’ is the chosen track to be made available on Friday.
Interestingly, this ‘Motorbreath’ clip features vocals from indie-pop prodigy, Grumpy (aka Heaven Schmitt), providing an ethereal set of harmonies throughout. Heaven, who hails from New York, also features prominently on ‘This World's A Giant’.
Grumpy contributes towards making ‘Motorbreath’ one of the most eye-catching teasers that the Oklahoma singer-songwriter has shared in recent weeks, with ‘Motorbreath’ carrying a sinuous, enchanting hook that accentuates the evocative, visceral lyricism Zach has become synonymous with. The title appears to be a reference to the slang phrase used to describe a heavy smoker.
Across a sparse acoustic guitar, Zach reflects on a recent, substance-fuelled romance, “Adderall and white lace bras will make you fall in love / You left your blue jeans in my pickup truck”.
Alongside Grumpy's vocals, Zach expresses mixed feelings about the Big Apple, “New York this time of year ain’t good for me ’cause all my friends lack self-control and empathy”.
Sadly, there's no release date as of yet for ‘Motorbreath’ - nor ‘All Good Things Past’ or ‘Rockaway’ - but we're hoping Zach Bryan is planning to include all three tracks on his forthcoming studio album. The ‘Something in the Orange’ crooner has previously hinted via X (formerly Twitter) that his next project may well be a fully acoustic album.
Either way, it seems Zach Bryan is - excitingly - hard at work on the record. He revealed to Bruce Springsteen last month during a conversation for Rolling Stone that he's already penned 14 songs for the highly anticipated album. That was before we got to hear snippets of ‘All Good Things Past’, ‘Rockaway’ and ‘Motorbreath’, and it remains unclear whether these three were part of that initial 14, or whether Zach has written them more recently, potentially following his split from Brianna.
