Ella Langley has recalled her father's hilarious reaction, when she came home one day to tell him she'd decided to get saved and pledge her life to Jesus a second time, after Langley had gone through a particularly frightening experience at Halloween.
While chatting to Theo Von for his This Past Weekend podcast, Langley brought up Christian Judgement Houses. These are immersive Halloween experiences that take small groups of people through a series of rooms, which piece together to tell a tragic story, with the intention being to encourage attendees to find Jesus. They often feature intense, visceral depictions of Heaven and Hell.
Langley underlines that Judgement Houses were “very scary”, recalling, “I remember our youth group took us. You get in there and it's like this car crash scene and it's pretty much like convincing you...that you could die the second you walk out of here. So, you better settle up...You better get saved. And I had already been saved”.
She goes on to stress that, even though she'd already been saved and baptised, the experience was so haunting that she felt she had to do it all over again, “But going through this affected me so bad that at the end they were like, ‘Anyone, if you're not sure, you know, sit down and talk’. And so I raised my hand...and I sat down with the guy at the table in the booth and we had the whole conversation”.
The ‘Choosin’ Texas’ hitmaker jokes that her Dad thought this was ridiculous, and completely missed the point of being saved in the first place, “I'll never forget coming home, and my dad was laying on the couch watching Titanic, and I said, ‘Dad, I need to talk to you about something’. And I was like, ‘I got saved again tonight’”.
Langley remembers how annoyed he was, “My dad pauses the TV when he's p***ed off about something...that's how you know...He said, ‘You did what?!’ I was like, ‘Dad, I just got so scared at this thing’. He was like, ‘Baby, you not..’ Immediately...‘Well you are kind of a dumbass, because...that's the whole point of being saved”.
It's clear her father wasn't upset with her for wanting to get saved again, rather, he just wanted his daughter to appreciate that this was supposed to be a one-time event.
Although you have to feel for Langley getting so fearful after this Judgement House, it thankfully seems like she quickly got over it, with this now simply being a light-hearted tale. Langley has made it a habit to discuss her faith at her live shows, underlining how impactful her trust in God and Jesus have been for her life.
Langley has been open about her mental health struggles throughout 2025, with the Alabama native being forced to take time away from touring as a result of this. But now, as Langley movingly explains at her concerts, she has been able to cultivate a healthier and happier state of mind, thanks in no small part to her faith journey.
With the ‘Be Her’ singer-songwriter plotting a special Toy Story-themed show when she headlines in Saint Paul, Minnesota on Halloween later this month, we think it's safe to say she won't be attending any more Christian Judgement Houses this time around.
