As well as making a cameo in Amazon Prime Video's new movie, Road House, Post Malone has included a new unreleased song in the the film, entitled ‘Horsepower’.
The clip used for Road House opens with a bright, invigorating guitar riff accompanied by a driving, commanding drum pattern. As the track builds, a swarm of electric guitars descend emphatically, before Post Malone's signature vibrato enters the fray.
During the brooding hook, Post Malone layers his vocals to give the chorus a stormy, digitised ambience, which aligns with the menacing, neon-tinged atmosphere of Road House.
With Posty currently readying his debut country album, it remains unclear whether ‘Horsepower’ will feature on that project, or whether it'll be made available as a separate single. In a 2023 Twitch stream, he confirmed he's working on two albums simultaneously, so perhaps it'll feature on a second, non-country project.
It certainly feels as though ‘Horsepower’ leans more towards Post Malone's Hip Hop-infused, 808-fuelled sound, rather than the indie-folk of his latest album, AUSTIN, or the country-inspired territory of recent teasers such as ‘I Had Some Help’ with Morgan Wallen.
Having said that, ‘I Had Some Help’ and other fan-favourite snippets from Posty's forthcoming country album, including ‘Missin’ You Like This’ and the Luke Combs-assisted ‘I Ain't Got A Guy For That’, incorporate pop, indie and Hip Hop elements that suggest ‘Horsepower’ wouldn't be wholly out of place on the tracklist.
We imagine, given the fact that it's featured front-and-centre during the credits for Road House, Post Malone intends ‘Horsepower’ to be a stand-alone release for the film. Even so, we're hoping he makes it available on streaming platforms before too long.
We're expecting the New York native to announce his first single from his momentous country project in the coming weeks, and once he does, the overall direction of the record will be easier to pin down. Either way, the sense of anticipation ahead of Posty's next release is reaching fever pitch, with each new snippet, demo and teaser he shares elevating the excitement levels ahead of his debut country album.
