Ever since Post Malone teased that now-viral snippet of his new song, ‘Chrome Heartbreaker’, earlier in July, fans have been speculating that Post is returning to his 2016 trap sound and pivoting away from country music for his new album, The Eternal Buzz.

However, we think fans of Country Post don't need to panic. The ‘Chemical’ hitmaker confirmed in an interview with Billboard last year that he's been making music with some of his Nashville songwriting buddies, such as Thomas Rhett and ERNEST.

During the conversation, which took place in April ahead of his blockbuster Coachella headline set in Indio, California, Post shared, “We just have fun. We just sit and f***ing talk and make songs. And so I’m pretty excited for the new record already”.

At that time, according to Billboard, Post had made two trips to Nashville to record new music for the forthcoming album, and was flying out the next day to cut more vocals.

Elsewhere in the interview, Post revealed he'd “made probably 35 songs; it’s just a matter of which ones rock, and which ones sock”, adding that his band are “f***ing killing it”.

The ‘Sunflower’ chart-topper went on to underline, “I sit there and listen to these songs, and I usually hate listening to my music, but listening to the band play, I get so excited”.

Fast-forward almost exactly one year to April 2026, and Post unveiled the title of his new album, The Eternal Buzz, alongside what appears to be a 40-song tracklist - with no titles, as of yet. The project is split into two sides, featuring 20 tracks apiece.

A month later, Jake Worthington revealed via Troy Cartwright's Ten Year Town Podcast that he'd been writing songs with Post. And any listener that's familiar with Worthington will know that, if he's in the writing room, you know it's going to be super country.

So bearing all of this in mind, when Post shared a clip of ‘Chrome Heartbreaker’ - and then performed it live during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Closing Ceremony - although a lot of commentators started claiming this means he's ditching country altogether, we think this is clearly a major over-reaction. Post has been working with an array of country collaborators and recording much of the album in Nashville.

What feels most likely, at this point, is that The Eternal Buzz is divided into one half of old-school Posty trap anthems - like ‘Chrome Heartbreaker’ - and one half of country earworms.

What's more, given how ERNEST was a cornerstone of Post's debut country album, F-1Trillion, we expect the Nashville native to feature heavily as a songwriter across The Eternal Buzz. While he's made his name in Music City, ERNEST started off as a rapper, and we wouldn't be surprised if he has a few writing credits on the trap side of The Eternal Buzz, as well as contributing to the country disc, too.

Either way, the fact that Post has been working with ERN and TR on The Eternal Buzz, and that he evidently had a wealth of country-leaning offerings under his belt back in April 2025, we're feeling confident that the new album will be half-country, half-trap.

It seems like a given that ‘Chrome Heartbreaker’ will be the lead single, and we'd imagine Post will then follow this up with a song from the country side of the record, just to reassure his Nashville fanbase. It's still early days, but The Eternal Buzz is already shaping up to be one of the most keenly anticipated projects of 2026.

Post's fanbase have always celebrated and embraced his versatility, and the unrivalled ease with which he flits between genres. As a result, a double-album exploring his broad spectrum of tastes feels like a genius move - and we can't wait to hear it all.
