Post Malone just took the stage to headline the star-studded FIFA World Cup Final Closing Ceremony 2026, with the ‘I Had Some Help’ hitmaker debuting his brand new song, ’Chrome Heartbreaker’, which he teased across social media earlier in the week.

After iShowSpeed's opening performance, the camera panned to Posty with his signature cowboy hat and double-denim look. However, rather than hearing the unmistakable to intro to one of his trap anthems, we heard the beginning of the viral ‘Chrome Heartbreaker’ snippet that's been flooding our TikTok ‘For You’ pages all weekend.

Across an atmospheric, beat-driven backing, Post playfully raps, “Yeah, I'm hoppin' out the Cully, Hush Puppy on me / Paparazzi flockin' with the magazine pokin' / All my money clean, not a damn stain on me / I would pop a bean, 2016 Stoney / I know them Lucchese gon' stomp to this / All them bad punk b***** gon' rock to this / All my gang-affiliated gon' walk to this / Even all my ex-shawties gon' bop to this”.

The wittiest line, though, has to be “I'm breaking bands up, I'm Yoko Ono”, with Post referencing all the idea that Ono was supposedly the reason for The Beatles’ split in 1970. The phrase “breaking bands up” is also a nod to the fact that rappers call large stacks of money “bands”, because of the paper or rubber strip that holds them together. If Post is “breaking bands up”, he's splashing the cash. Genius.

There's no word on a release date for ’Chrome Heartbreaker’ just yet, but fans have been celebrating this return to Post's self-professed “2016 Stoney” era, which was defined by his hazy, Auto-Tune-drenched croons and fiery, trap-inspired instrumentals.

Although some of his country fans that joined him for his Nashville-based 2024 F-1Trillion: Long Bed chapter have been expressing fears that he is now moving away from the genre, we think there's no need to fear. Post revealed in April that he was working on a double-album called The Eternal Buzz, with each ‘Disc’ having 20 songs.

We reckon this means that one half will feature rap earworms that hark back to his earlier material, like ‘rockstar’ and ‘White Iverson’, while the other side will be straight-up country.

After delivering a surprise rendition of ‘Chrome Heartbreaker’ in New York MetLife Stadium this evening (Sunday, July 19th 2026), Post went into two of his most iconic chart-toppers - ‘Wow.’ and ‘Sunflower’ - with Swae Lee joining him for the latter.

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup Half-Time Show, Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira and BTS are all set to perform in the colossal event, which has been curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin.

Post's performance came ahead of Spain's eagerly anticipated clash with Argentina, which will see La Roja's Lamine Yamal face off with La Selección's Lionel Messi for glory.
