In a stacked category of some of the genre's biggest names, ‘You Proof’ hitmaker Morgan Wallen took home the 2023 ACM Award for Male Artist of the Year.
Morgan Wallen wasn't in attendance, as the Sneedville megastar continues his prolonged period of enforced voice rest. Morgan Wallen confirmed he'd be taking a six-week break from touring earlier in the week, after sadly reinjuring his vocal chords.
Although Wallen therefore wasn't able to make a speech, the 2023 ACM Awards co-host, Garth Brooks, paid tribute to the prolific singer-songwriter, underlining that it must be killing him to not be in attendance to receive the accolade in person.
Morgan Wallen continues to break record after record since the release of his latest album, One Thing At A Time, which is on its way to remaining No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 for a staggering tenth week.
One of his latest singles, ‘Last Night’ recently became the first song in history to top the Billboard Hot 100 and Country Airplay chart at the same time.
Chris Stapleton was triumphant in this category last year, with the ‘You Should Probably Leave’ songsmith being viewed by many across the industry as the man to beat whenever awards season rolls around, making Wallen's victory all the more impressive.
Having said that, over the past couple of years Morgan Wallen has cemented his status as one of the most prominent artists - if not the most prominent artist - in country music, and his success in the 2023 ACM Male Artist of the Year category is therefore unsurprising.
Also jostling for candidacy for 2023 ACM Male Artist of the Year this time around was Kane Brown, who delivered a blistering performance earlier in the evening, along with Luke Combs and Jordan Davis.
