Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen's ‘I Can't Love You Anymore’ is cementing itself as a defining moment of 2026, with two of the genre's biggest stars joining forces for a huge collaboration that is now up for CMA Musical Event of the Year. As Wallen explains, he was keen to be involved as soon as Langley sent him the demo.
While introducing ‘I Can't Love You Anymore’ during one of his summer tour-stops in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Wallen reflected on how the collaboration came about a few weeks earlier.
The Sneedville native underlines that he was enamoured with the track from the outset, “Ella wrote this song and sent it me about a month ago and I loved it the second I heard it”.
It echoes his sentiments from the official press release accompanying the song's arrival, in which Wallen gushed, “Ella and I have been talking about doing a song for a little while now. We have been on tour together and I’m a huge fan of what she does”.
The ‘Last Night’ crooner expanded, “She wrote and sent over this song and from the beginning riff, it was hard to deny. I’m honored she wanted me to be the one to do it with her”.
It comes after Langley revealed during her exclusive SiriusXM show that she and Wallen had initially attempted to write a duet together, but hadn't been able to strike gold.
The ‘Choosin’ Texas’ singer-songwriter recalled, “I've gotten to do a lot of really cool stuff this year, and something that I didn't know was going to happen but I was really hoping on, was the song with Morgan. You know, we've been on tour together...This is our third year on tour together, and I was like, ‘Can we do something that we...both know?’ And we tried to write one and it didn't work out”.
She went on, “My manager was having this...day, and I wrote down this title from it, and I talked to Morgan later that day and he was like, ‘S***, why don't you just try to go write it?’”
Langley concluded, “I was like, ‘I don't know why I don't go do that, I don't know’. So I called two of my favourite people and we went and sat down in the studio and recorded this song less than a month than when it came out. This is ’I Can't Love You Anymore’”.
After reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July, ‘I Can't Love You Anymore’ held its own inside the Top Ten for the majority of the summer. The star-studded duet also surged to the top spot at Country Radio a matter of weeks after its release.
It's rare that we get to hear two artists at the pinnacle of the genre colliding in this way. We're hoping that, although they're not on tour together anymore, we get to hear Langley and Wallen perform this simmering, will-they-won't-they ode again before too long.
