Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs have received 2023 ARIA Awards nominations for Most Popular International Artist. The two country megastars will battle it out for the Australian trophy with Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, SZA, Nicki Minaj, P!nk, Metro Boomin and Drake and 21 Savage's collaborative project for the coveted accolade.
The appearance of Morgan and Luke on the list of nominees represents a significant moment for country music as a whole, with the Most Popular International Artist nominations roster usually dominated by genres such as pop, rap and EDM.
Luke Combs received a nod in the same category back in 2021, with the award ultimately going to Taylor Swift in honour of her acclaimed Evermore album. Last year, Harry Styles was crowned ARIA's Most Popular International Artist for his much-loved Harry's House project.
The albums that have earned Morgan and Luke their spots in the class of 2023, One Thing At A Time and Gettin’ Old, have been a prominent force on the all-genre charts throughout the year.
Morgan Wallen's One Thing At A Time enjoyed a record-breaking run atop the Billbord 200 earlier in 2023, while Luke Combs’ Gettin’ Old continues to spawn a plethora of Country Radio No. 1 singles, such as ’Fast Car’ and ‘Love You Anyway’.
Given the heavyweight line-up of 2023 Most Popular International Artist nominees heading into the Sydney, New South Wales ceremony, it'll be a formidable task for either Morgan Wallen or Luke Combs to take home the prestigious trophy.
However, with the victor being selected by voters, some are tipping Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs as dark horses for the award, due to their fiercely loyal fanbases.
