Megan Moroney has discussed what she would envision a potential country collaboration with Taylor Swift being like, should Swift decide to make a return to country this year.

Rumours and speculation continue to swirl around Swift's long-fabled comeback to the country music scene, particularly after she released the country-leaning ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ for the Toy Story 5 soundtrack earlier in the summer.

In a conversation with Cosmopolitan, Moroney has underlined that she would be very keen for a collaboration, if the opportunity arose, before contemplating what their song might be about, “I would pass out. I’ve not met her, so I feel like if we got to hang out, we would figure that out. I love her entire Red album, so I bet it would be something like that or even ‘Picture to Burn’. We could crush an idea like that”.

Moroney goes on to joke that, seeing as Swift is now happily married to Travis Kelce, perhaps they'd have to explore a love-song rather than a revenge anthem, “But she’s happy and in love now, so maybe I could go out on a limb and write a love song with her. I’m gonna be like, “Girl, you’re gonna have to tell me what it’s like””.

In addition, while speaking with Cosmopolitan, Moroney reflects on her songwriting process more broadly, and how she is determined to never shy away from honesty - even if it means offending someone or getting candid about certain exes.

Moroney explains, “It’s confidence that has grown over time, but it’s not being ashamed of how you felt. If you think it’s wrong, then okay. But this is how I felt, so here’s the song about it. I always try to explain to people that I’ve written songs about these big emotions, so they can feel huge in a song. But I could have felt that way really intensely for 10 minutes and wrote a whole song about it. And so in your head, you’re like, Oh, this must be her whole life. And it’s like, “Well, actually, I was just heated, and I wrote the song.” Songs can be written from a few minutes of a feeling. So sometimes it’s not that deep. Other times, it is that deep”.

The ‘Wish I Didn't’ singer-songwriter goes on to underline that, ultimately, her motivation is helping fans get through similar challenges that she's had to face, “When I get scared of putting out a song because it’s too personal, I think about how it might help somebody, because every time I’ve done it and I’ve taken the risk, people have come up to me and they’re like, “This song made me dump this guy” and “This song is making me never want to go back to him.” It’s just one of those things where you have to be like, “Fuck it. What’s the worst that could happen?””

Elsewhere, Moroney confirms that her Cloud 9 stand-out, ‘Who Hurt You?’, was indeed inspired by Riley Green - as many fans suspected - as well as touching on how she deals with outside pressures on social media regarding the way she looks and dresses.
