The Academy of Country Music has revealed its early trio of 2024 award winners ahead of the Frisco, Texas ceremony tomorrow night (May 16th), with Megan Moroney, Nate Smith and Tigirlily Gold all becoming first-time ACM victors.
Megan Moroney takes home the prestigious New Female Artist of the Year accolade, beating out competition from Ashley Cooke, Hannah Ellis, Kassi Ashton and Kylie Morgan.
Ashley Cooke was arguably Megan Moroney's biggest competitor out of this roster, but with the latter entering the 2024 ACM Awards as the leading nominee and a strong contender for Female Artist of the Year, it was always going to hard to look past Moroney when deciding who to give the New Female Artist of the Year to.
With this triumph under her belt, Thursday evening is already shaping up to be a successful ceremony for Megan Moroney, with the ‘Indifferent’ hitmaker also challenging for Song of the Year (‘Tennessee Orange’), Music Event of the Year (‘Can't Break Up Now’ with Old Dominion) and Visual Media of the Year (‘Tennessee Orange’).
In addition, Nate Smith has been awarded 2024 ACM New Male Artist of the Year, with the ‘Whiskey On You’ singer-songwriter having enjoyed a meteoric rise in the past twelve months. Impressively, Smith wins this award despite the success of his record-equalling No. 1, ’World On Fire’, falling outside the 2024 ACM eligibility period - which means you can expect to see the California artist back for more glory in 2025. Nate Smith will perform a hotly anticipated duet with Avril Lavigne at this year's ceremony, with the duo debuting a revamped version of Smith's ‘Bulletproof’.
Completing the list of early ACM winners is Tigirlily Gold, who receive the 2024 ACM award for New Duo/Group of the Year. In a relatively small roster, featuring just Neon Union and Restless Road alongside Tigirlily Gold, it seems ACM brought reinstated this category for the primary purpose of recognising Tigirlily's ascent in recent months. The much-loved duo are currently preparing their debut album, Blonde.
The 2024 ACM Awards will take place at Frisco's Ford Center on Thursday, May 16th, with a star-studded line-up of performers set to take the stage, including Post Malone, Kelsea Ballerini, Noah Kahan, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Parker McCollum and more.
