Margo Price has released a video for her heart-breaking song ‘Hey Child’.
The song, which features on her latest record That’s How Rumours Get Started, was actually written around ten years ago and revisits a dark period in her life.
Price wrote it with her husband Jeremy Ivey about the destructive lifestyle which they led after their infant son Ezra passed away, “Everything seemed to be crumbling around us” Price said as she spoke of that time in her life.
The video, which Price describes as “part short film, part music video”, explores the cycle of addiction, depression and self medication - all things Price has struggled with in her life.
She said that she was reluctant to revisit the song at first, which Sturgill Simpson had encouraged her to re-record, but that she was glad she did as it “still hits home”.
The new video was directed by Kimberley Stuckwisch, who also worked with Price on ‘Letting Me Down’ and ‘All American Made’.
Price has also announced that she will play her first in-person show in nearly a year in May, as she will be performing at the Caverns Above Ground Amphitheatre in Pelham, Tennessee on the 28th. Her husband Jeremy Ivey will support.
