Despite only recently wrapping up a nationwide tour, it seems Luke Combs is already switching his attention to new music.
On Sunday, he teased a new, unreleased song, ‘Tattoo On A Sunburn’.
The beachside ballad details a holiday romance, during which the two lovers fall in love and decide to get tattoos of each other's names.
Combs croons, “She didn't have to work too hard to talk me into it”, before going on to lament the fact that the relationship has now ended.
As fans have come to expect with Combs' songs, there is a healthy dose of intricate wordplay, with the 2022 CMA Entertainer of the Year using the now washed off tattoo as a metaphor for his lost love (“It's faded away, but I guess some people never do”).
Donning a fish-emblazoned cap and a deer-themed t-shirt, Combs seems to be leaning into his country songwriting roots with the latest teaser tracks that he's been dropping.
‘Tattoo On A Sunburn’ joins Combs' burgeoning repertoire of unreleased tracks, which includes fan-favourites such as ‘Five Leaf Clover’, ‘Sleepless in a Hotel Room’ and ‘Joe’.
As we outlined back in November, we suspect that Combs might just have a Double Album up his sleeve, potentially called Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old.
If Combs is gearing up to release a new project, could ‘Tattoo On A Sunburn’ make its way onto the tracklist?
It would seem likely, especially given the fact that Combs accompanied his video with the tantalising comment, ‘Y’all want me to release this one?’
Yes, Luke. Yes we do.
