In a crowded category of heavyweights, Luke Combs’ ‘Fast Car’ has been named the 2023 Single of the Year at the 57th Annual CMA Awards.
As opposed to the Song of the Year category, which honors the craft of songwriting, the Single of the Year is intended to honor the most successful release of the year.
Luke, humble as ever, began his acceptance speech by expressing his gratitude to the writer of ‘Fast Car’, “First and foremost, I want to thank Tracy Chapman for writing one of the best songs of all time”, before underlining he never intended for this to be a commercial release, “I just recorded it because I love this song...it was my first favourite song I ever had”.
He went on to thank his wife, his two young children and his parents, with the North Carolina hitmaker surrounded on-stage by his good friends and ‘Fast Car’ producers, Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton.
Joining Luke Combs in the running for Single of the Year were some of the biggest hits of the year, including Lainey Wilson's Heart Like A Truck, Jelly Roll's 'Need A Favor', Jordan Davis' 'Next Thing You Know' and the already two-time CMA award-winning 'wait in the truck' from HARDY and Lainey Wilson.
The celebrated 57th Annual CMA Awards included a slew of show stopping performances from the likes of Jelly Roll, Kelsea Ballerini, co-host Luke Bryan, Luke Combs and a long list of others.
