‘Fast Car’ has earned the decorated distinction of Song of the Year at the 2023 CMA Awards. Luke Combs’ stellar cover propelled the ballad into the country music mainstream, but Song of the Year goes to ‘Fast Car’s songwriter, with Tracy Chapman deservedly taking home the honour.
Although Tracy Chapman was not in attendance, through a previously written message she emphasised her gratitude to Luke Combs for deciding to releasee his own take on the song.
This year's Song of the Year category was chock-full of strong inclusions, with Lainey Wilson's 'Heart Like A Truck', Jordan Davis' 'Next Thing You Know' Megan Moroney's 'Tennessee Orange' and HARDY's Lainey Wilson-assisted 'wait in the truck' all vying for glory.
Elsewhere in teh 57th Annual CMA Awards, the ceremony included a star-studded collection of performers, including a a show-stopping opening performance from Jelly Roll, Kelsea Ballerini, co-host Luke Bryan and a moving Jimmy Buffett tribute from Zac Brown Band, Mac MacAnally and Alan Jackson, among others.
