Jelly Roll has officially ushered in his next era by performing his brand new song, ’Liar’, at the 2024 ACM Awards, with fans hoping this means his album is around the corner.

Basking in a brooding red light, Jelly Roll rattled through a list of false truths he's been told in his time (“Money makes you happy / Heaven isn't real / You won't find nobody / Because you're heart's too broke”), before delivering the euphoric conclusion to the anthemic hook - “You ain't nothin’ but a liar”.

Jelly Roll debuted the track at the Grand Ole Opry earlier in the year, and ‘Liar’ looks set to be the lead single from the much-loved artist's forthcoming record.

Jelly's performances always carry a sense of wider significance and perhaps even poignance, but his ACM set dialled this up another notch, with the genre-blending maverick showcasing his charismatic vocals and striking, visceral lyricism throughout.

The Tennessee hitmaker had excitingly teased prior to taking the stage that fans could look forward to something fresh and unique, with Jelly sharing with ABC Audio, “Man, it is different for even me. It is a different look. It's a different thing...It's a new song we're debuting. I mean, all bets are off, dude. It's a train off the tracks”.

It's safe to say he delivered, and we're now keenly anticipating the official announcement regarding Jelly Roll's Whitsitt Chapel follow-up, which is expected to drop later in 2024.

It could easily be argued that Jelly Roll was the first artist of the 2020's to successfully complete the transition from rap, rock or pop into country, with Jelly picking up an array of chart-toppers and accolades a matter of months after storming into the genre.

The sincerity he always infuses into his music radiated throughout his ACM Awards performance, and it served as yet another reminder why country music is much better off with the ‘Son of a Sinner’ crooner in it, than it was before Jelly entered the scene.

He ended his fiery set by making it clear who the unreleased track is directed at, with Jelly Roll holding his hand up high and proclaiming to the crowd, ‘The Devil is a liar’.

Other performers on the packed 2024 ACM Awards line-up included Cody Johnson, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, Post Malone, Nate Smith and Avril Lavigne and more. The star-studded ceremony returned to the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas for the second year in a row, with Reba McEntire taking the helm for the 17th time.
