During an interview with Holler around the release of Post Malone's debut country album, F-1Trillion: Long Bed, Chandler Walters recalls how he ended up in the writing and studio sessions for the project. Walters co-wrote six tracks from the record.

Walters, who is now establishing himself as a blossoming artist in his own right with stellar singles such as ‘Under The Neon’ and ’Break Your Heart’, became a pivotal figure in the creation of F-1Trillion. He co-write fan-favourites such as ‘I Had Some Help’ with Morgan Wallen, ‘Losers’ with Jelly Roll, ‘Devil I've Been’ with ERNEST and more.

When Post started venturing into the country space, Walters was still making his name as a steel guitarist, sharing videos of him playing on TikTok, which then caught the attention of ERNEST. ERNEST was one of the earliest figures to be drafted in to help Post with F-1Trillion, with Walters recalling how ERN - one of his closest friends in the country scene - then told him Post wanted him in the session.

Walters shares, “The [2023] CMA Awards was the first night I got invited over to the studio. They were over at Blackbird, and Post had been interested in wanting a steel guitarist there and ERN called me. He was like, ‘Yo Post wants you at the session right now’. I pack my s*** up, and I was there in the quickest amount of time I could be”.

He goes on, “As I walked in, it was me, Post, Brad Paisley, Charlie [Handsome], ERNEST and Louis Bell. We were all in there, and I was like, ‘What in the world is this room right now?’”

Thankfully, though, they got along from the get-go, “We all hit it off really well. It was a great time. And I think once Brad left, we ended up writing ‘What Don't Belong to Me’”.

Elsewhere during his conversation with Holler around the release of F-1Trillion, Walters explains how ‘I Had Some Help’ was inspired by a particularly crazy evening at Losers Bar in Nashville, “Charlie and all of us, we were out at Losers the night before...Losers is our home bar. That's my home...It's probably unhealthy, but that's my home. We were there the night before, and Post came in to the main bar there and ordered white tea shots for the entire bar. I believe it was like 100-something shots. And I looked at Charlie, and I was like, ‘I don't know how the hell we're going to do this’...And he goes, ‘Well, we're going to need some help’”.

Walters reflects, “And that's where [the song] stems from. Then the next day in the studio, I knew it was our Morgan day, where we had to try and get a Morgan song for Post. And that title, ‘I Had Some Help’...you know, ‘We're Going to Need Some Help’ morphed into ‘I Had Some Help’...I fired off that title. I was like, ‘Yo boys, what if we wrote this today?’ And it was very fast. From then on, I have the entire voice-note on my phone of us writing that song, and it was 24 minutes long”.

Walters would then go on to join Post's Big Ass Stadium Tour as both the first opener and a member of the ‘Chemical’ hitmaker's Fools For You band, with the traditional country prodigy often hosting his Walters Western Wednesday parties after the shows.

Now, with Post gearing up for his next body of work - The Eternal Buzz - we're hoping that Walters has once again been a key part of the creative process. The project is expected to be half-trap, half-country, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll hear Walters’ signature steel guitar playing on the latter half of the record.
