During a new conversation with CBS Morning, Riley Green has reflected on his experience working with his good buddy Luke Grimes on the 2025 Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals.

Green appeared in the show as a returning character, Garrett - or ‘Double G’, as his squad-mates nicknamed him. An Alabama-based musician who used to be a US Navy SEAL with Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green), Garrett shows up unannounced as he attempts to overcome his PTSD with the help of his old pals.

We won't share any spoilers, but Green only sticks around for a few episodes, with the ‘Worst Way’ hitmaker discussing how he found his first acting role with the CBS Mornings team.

Green gushes, “I loved it. You know Luke Grimes? He's such a great dude. It happened so organically because he was starting his music career, coming to Nashville a little bit, and we wrote together, and he mentioned something about, maybe I should act, you know. I said, ‘Well, I'm interested in it’. He said, ‘I got this show...’”

Green goes on, “I mean, it was a couple months later, I went out and read for the part. They said I got it. I flew back out to Utah and we filmed the show, and I was in and amongst the tour, so it was a crazy time flying back and forth every week. But I loved it”.

The ‘Think As You Drunk’ singer-songwriter opened up a few weeks back about how he felt a little underprepared for the role, given how he was juggling touring at the same time.

Elsewhere in his CBS Mornings conversation, Green touches on the process of getting the role in the first place, revealing, “We filmed an audition of me reading, but I did get to read with the star of the show, which doesn't happen all the time, I'm sure!”

Green is currently gearing up to release his eagerly anticipated new album, That's Just Me, on September 18th. The project will feature the already-released singles, ’Think As You Drunk’, ‘Go Again’ with Hannah McFarland, ‘Imagine That’ and ‘My Way’ - which Green first performed as Garrett in Marshals. Marshals, meanwhile, has been renewed for a second season, which premieres on October 4th.
