The Background:
Arriving on Thursday, May 28th 2026, just a few short weeks after dropping ‘My Way’ and making his debut on-screen appearance in Marshals, Riley Green's ‘Think As You Drunk’ is a playful, inebriated homage to the legendary Toby Keith.
Interpolating the melody from Keith's iconic 2005 anthem, ‘As Good As I Once Was’, ‘Think As You Drunk’ captures the carefree, swaggering and tongue-in-cheek spirit of Keith's hit.
The Sound:
‘Think As You Drunk’ is an ode to the so-called ‘Golden Era’ of country music in the ‘90s, with Green stepping into the shoes of a tipsy narrator as he slurs his way through the verses. Amusingly, Green mixes up some of the lyrics - as we see with the titular line - and his hilarious delivery of ‘CBA's’ conveys the artist's mock inebriation.
The instrumental is driven by a sea of twangy, lively electric guitars, harking back to the composition of ‘As Good As I Once Was’, before Keith makes a touching posthumous appearance at the end. This earworm is unashamedly old-school and light-hearted.
The Meaning:
The opening verse is directed towards the bartender, with our narrator expressing bemusement after he tries to cut him off. He quips that he's the reason the bar is able to keep the lights one, because he's spends so much time there drinking.
We get a sense throughout the verse of just how toasted our protagonist is, as he admits he has no clue where his keys are, nor who is responsible for the lipstick on his cheek. But don't fret, he reassures the barkeep - he's not as think as you drunk. Wait...
During the hook, Green delivers the hilarious punchline. While he's trying to convey how he's actually more sober than he appears, he jumbles up his words as he attempts to say, “I ain't as drunk as you think”, instead mumbling, “I ain't as think as you drunk”. In doing so, of course, the narrator betrays just how inebriated he actually is. He then gets his ABC's wrong, slurring, “No, I can't say my CBA's”.
In the second verse, the protagonist seems to have somehow stumbled his way back home, and is addressing his girlfriend the morning after. He hazily recalls falling asleep in the backyard amidst an array of crushed-up beer cans, as well as confessing he might have spent some time getting cozy with a few cowgirls on the dance-floor.
As the jovial song approaches its conclusion, we hear the inimitable Toby Keith singing out the final two lines from ‘As Good As I Once Was’, “May not be good as I once was / But I'm as good once, as I ever was”, highlighting Keith's influence on the track.
What has Riley Green said about ‘Think As You Drunk’?
Although not delving into the creation of this track specifically, in his May 2026 Billboard cover story, which was published the day of ‘Think As You Drunk’s release, Green paid tribute to Keith's lasting impact on him, “The best compliment I can give a song is ‘Man, this feels like a Toby Keith song’. Especially as a songwriter, I don't know if there was a bigger influence on me”. He adds, “If [a song] makes you feel something [and the] line says what you're trying to say, then it works”.

“Just who the hell do you think you are
I pay the light bill in this bar
Hey whatcha mean you’re gonna cut me off
Just shut up and give me that beer I bought
I got no idea who took my keys
Who put this lipstick on my cheek
I know I might come off whiskey bent
You’re probably thinkin’ I’m three sheets to the wind
-
But I ain’t as think as you drunk I am
Don’t pay no mind to this mountain of crushed up cans
No, I can’t say my CBA’s
I can sing you every song that jukebox plays
And I know I can’t stand or sit
But if I was hammered, could I dance like this?
Might have a cold one in each hand
But I ain’t as think as you drunk I am
-
Honey, to be honest I had me a few
And I might've danced with a cowgirl or two
I might've left my left boot at the bar
You might've seen me laying out in the yard
-
But I ain’t as think as you drunk I am
Don’t pay no mind to this mountain of crushed up cans
No, I can’t say my CBA’s
I can sing you every song that jukebox plays
And I know I can’t stand or sit
But if I was hammered, could I dance like this?
Might have a cold one in each hand
But I ain’t as think as you drunk I am
-
Well, I might've started drinking at noon
But this honky-tonk don't close ‘til two
-
And I ain’t as think as you drunk I am
Don’t pay no mind to this mountain of crushed up cans
No, I can’t say my CBA’s
I can sing you every song that jukebox plays
And I know I can’t stand or sit
But if I was hammered, could I dance like this?
Might have a cold one in each hand
But I ain’t as think as you drunk I am
-
Might have a cold one in all three hands
But I ain't as think as you drunk I am
-
May not be good as I once was
But I'm as good once, as I ever was”
