Riley Green - ‘My Way’
Label: Nashville Harbor Records
Release Date: April 17th, 2026
Songwriter: Riley Green
Producer: Dann Huff
The Background:
Shortly before his debut on-screen appearance on Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals, in April 2026, Riley Green released his long-teased offering, ‘My Way’.
The Alabama native first started sharing acoustic performances of this track via social media in early 2025, with fans resigning themselves to the prospect of ‘My Way’ never being officially released. But thankfully, to celebrate his first ever acting role on Marshals - during which he performs a portion of ‘My Way’ on-camera - Green decided to finally make this much-loved track available to stream on April 17th.
The Sound:
‘My Way’, penned entirely by Green, follows in the same pared-down, weather-worn ambience of ’Jesus Saves’ and ‘Don't Mind If I Do’. The ‘Worst Way’ hitmaker's rugged and intentionally jaded-sounding vocals drift across the undulating, stripped-back acoustic guitar, as he sadly serenades a woman who's no longer there.
As Green's status has grown, you can hear the confidence in his delivery elevating alongside this, with ‘My Way’ the epitome of an artist who knows where his strengths lie. He doesn't try and overdo it or show off his vocals, rather, he meets the track where it is, and keeps the atmosphere low-key and intricate throughout.
The Meaning:
For the first half of ‘My Way’, it sounds like Green is simply singing lovingly to a partner that he's about to see again. He paints a romantic, rose-tinted scene that he's fantasising about, as he yearns to return to a time when they watched the sunset together.
The portrait then shifts to an equally warm, loving image of Green and his lover dancing as a fireplace flickers enchantingly in the background and an Al Green record sets the mood.
The lyric, “A little bit of red wine poured into coffee cups”, has sparked some internet speculation, due to the phrasing being very similar to Ella Langley's line in ‘You & Me Time’ from her new record, Dandelion: “Put a little bit of red wine in a coffee cup”.
Of course, with Green and Langley rumoured to have been dating at some point in 2025 following their blockbuster collaborations, ‘you look like you love me’ and ‘Don't Mind If I Do’, some fans are wondering whether the links between these lyrics are intentional. It's worth flagging that Green's first acoustic ‘My Way’ teaser with this lyric dropped almost a year before Langley released ‘You & Me Time’.
As ‘My Way’ progresses, it's becomes heartbreakingly apparent that Green is actually crooning to someone who he is no longer with, as he imagines being back in her arms, “I'd say, "You're all I ever think about / And I'd give anything to see your face." / You'd say, "I miss you." / I'd say, "I don't know how much more I can take”.
The final line, “If I had it my way / I could just lean in and kiss your lips right now”, makes it feel like they're back together, but it seems it's just our protagonist's imagination.

“If I had it my way
I'd be watching your eyes turn from brown to hazel right now
The way they did on the front-porch swing
When the sky turned red, watching the sun go down
There'd be a field full of fireflies
Watching us lost time making up
You'd be in my arms, we'd still be in love
-
If I had it my way
If I had it my way
-
If I had it my way
I would blink, and we'd disappear somewhere, somehow
Have a little bit of red wine poured into coffee cups
Watching the stars come out
We'd have an Al Green record on
Dance a little by the fireplace
We'd make our love, then we'd just lay
-
If I had it my way
-
You'd call me up and say, "I need you now
And I can't go another day."
I'd say, "You're all I ever think about
And I'd give anything to see your face."
You'd say, "I miss you."
I'd say, "I don't know how much more I can take."
You'd say, "I'm on my way."
If I had it my way
-
If I had it my way
-
If I had it my way
I'd be losing feeling in my left arm right now
Trying like hell not to wake you up
While you're laying on me on the living-room couch
Have a John Wayne western on
That we wasn't watching anyway
Girl, I swear I would stay right there for days
-
If I had it my way
-
You'd call me up and say, "I need you now
And I can't go another day."
I'd say, "You're all I ever think about
And I'd give anything to see your face."
You'd say, "I miss you."
I'd say, "I don't know how much more I can take."
You'd say, "I'm on my way."
If I had it my way
-
If I had it my way
-
If I had it my way
I could just lean in and kiss your lips right now”
