After taking the stage alongside Post Malone and Morgan Wallen for a blockbuster performance at the 2023 CMA Awards, HARDY has officially released the first two songs from his highly anticipated HIXTAPE Vol. 3, which is due to arrive on March 29 2024.
The project, which is being dubbed ‘DIFFTAPE’, will serve as an homage to the late country icon, Joe Diffie, with the album consisting of Diffie's 2006 re-recordings of his greatest hits combined with a plethora of star-studded guest appearances.
The two tracks to have been made available are ‘John Deere Green’ featuring HARDY, Morgan Wallen and Joe Diffie and ‘Pick-Up Man’ featuring Post Malone and Joe Diffie.
The trio delivered a spectacular live debut of the collaboration during the 2023 CMA Awards, with Luke Bryan confirming while introducing the performance that both tracks would appear on HIXTAPE Vo. 3.
Speaking ahead of the HIXTAPE Vol. 3: DIFFTAPE announcement, Joe Diffie's estate underlined their excitement at the prospect of sharing this innovative project, “The Diffie Estate is thrilled to partner with Big Loud and HARDY in preserving and revitalizing Joe Diffie's musical legacy. With their shared excitement and passion, this collaboration promises to carry on the incredible journey of a true legend”.
HARDY echoed their sentiments, “I'm super excited about DIFFTAPE. I think it's a one-of-a-kind project and we're the first people to do something like this. Especially having the original recordings and the fact that we have his family's blessing to do it, it's all really special”.
HARDY's HIXTAPE series has always prided itself on being unashamedly fun, light-hearted and inspired by 90's country, so the decision to build the next instalment around Joe Diffie's expansive array of hits is undoubtedly a popular one amongst fans.
Joe Diffie appeared on HARDY's first ever HIXTAPE, with his contribution to ‘Redneck Tendencies’ ultimately being one of the Oklahoma native's last ever recordings.
HARDY underlined his admiration for Diffie's lasting impact on country, “Joe epitomized the '90s country voice – he was so good about hearing and cutting hits, recording amazing songs. On a personal level, I only got to meet Joe once, but he was extremely nice to me, and this was in my first year of being an artist when I was an absolute nobody. He was so, so kind to me and that memory I have of him is truly special to me, too”.
