HARDY and Lainey Wilson received the 2023 CMT Award for Collaborative Video of the Year for their ominous, bewitching collaboration, ‘Wait in the Truck’.

The duo are preparing to head out on the road together in the Fall for HARDY's first ever headlining arena tour.

In his acceptance speech, HARDY expressed his gratitude for Jordan Schmidt, who was one of the co-writers on ‘Wait in the Truck’, and outlined how the idea behind the video came to him instantly, “I sat down and was so inspired that I wrote the entire script for the music video because of how powerful I knew the song would be”.

He also thanked his collaborator and good friend, Lainey, who reciprocated the Mississippi native's show of appreciation, “I just want to say thank you so much to HARDY - I love you, buddy!”

The ‘Wait in the Truck’ music video follows the song's protagonist as he stumbles across a woman standing in the middle of the road.

After seeing her injuries, he subsequently drives straight to her abuser's house, knocks down the door and pulls the trigger.

It's a dark, visceral set of visuals, and HARDY and Lainey Wilson have both spoken in the past about how they hope the song can offer comfort to those who have suffered from domestic abuse.

This year's Collaborative Video of the Year category was jam-packed with contenders, all jostling for the top prize.

The nominees included Midland and Jon Pardi's swaggering ‘Longneck Way To Go’, Russell Dickerson and Jake Scott's ‘She Likes It’, Ingrid Andress and Sam Hunt's ‘Wishful Drinking’ and Elle King and Dierks Bentley's Worth A Shot’.

Last year, the gong was taken by Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean, for their seismic collaboration, ‘If I Didn't Love You’.

The chart-topping anthem was also victorious in the 2022 category for CMT Video of the Year, which is always the most desired prize of the evening.

‘Wait in the Truck’ also received a nomination the 2023 version of that award, and shortly before the ceremony began, it was confirmed that HARDY and Lainey had made it through to the final three contenders for this year's CMT Video of the Year award.
