Chris Stapleton has teamed up with Snoop Dogg for a brand new rendition of Phil Collins’ ‘In The Air Tonight’. The track will serve as ESPN's new Monday Night Football theme song, and also features Cindy Blackman Santana on the drums.
This special, genre-blending version of Collins’ iconic anthem will premiere tonight (September 18), during this evening's face-off between New Orleans and Carolina on Monday Night Football.
Despite being inextricably situated in his trademark traditional-leaning, Southern Rock-tinged sound whenever he releases solo material, when it comes to collaborations, Chris Stapleton isn't afraid to step outside the box and venture into uncharted waters.
The newly unveiled rap-infused Snoop Dogg link-up epitomises this, with the ‘White Horse’ songsmith having also released pop crossovers with Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars (‘BLOW’), P!nk (‘Just Say I'm Sorry’) and Justin Timberlake (‘Say Something’).
Given the fact that Phil Collins’ ‘In The Air Tonight’ is renowned for its explosive drum sequences, ESPN had to recruit a top-tier musician to replace Collins - and they undoubtedly found this in Cindy Blackman Santana, who toured with Lenny Kravitz for almost 20 years.
As well as being one of the new faces of ESPN's 2023 Monday Night Football theme song, Chris Stapleton is currently readying his new album, Higher, which is due to be made available on November 10.
