Widely regarded as one of the most impressive showmen in country music, Charley Crockett put his talents on display for an eager Arizona crowd on the first day of the Extra Innings Festival.

With a new album set to release on April 26th, Crockett teased what's to come while still covering his more renowned tracks.

As the sun said its goodbyes to Tempe, Crockett strutted out on stage, filling the air with swagger and charisma. The muddied intro to his newest single, '$10 Cowboy', rang through the speakers, and Good Time Charley and his backing band, The Blue Drifters, got right to work.

Next up for Crockett and the boys were 'Black Sedan' and 'Music City USA.' He settled in at this point, beginning to flaunt his unique and captivating stage presence. Shuffling around the stage and raising his guitar as his ancestor, Davy Crockett would raise his rifle.

Crockett's next move was to play an unreleased track, suspected to be on the new record, titled 'Hard Luck & Circumstances.'

The song had a downtrodden message, expressing the desire to disappear if his hard luck and poor circumstances remained around much longer. Despite the somber lyrics, the melody contained a sense of positivity, providing a sense of hope for the situation.

That was not the only new song he tested out in the desert, moving into another unreleased track soon after.

The song's title was unclear, but it housed a verse stating, 'They laughed at me in NYC / Called me a fool in LA / I doubt that Nashville saw me coming / Besides the bar folks working late.' The song explores Crockett's identity and path to success, from busking in city streets to where he is now.

Later in the set, Crockett took the time to acknowledge the act following him on the Right Field stage, the Turnpike Troubadours. He praised the Oklahoma-based group's lead singer, Evan Felker, sharing that he had been an integral part of Crockett's success after he handed Felker a CD of his outside Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas ten years ago.

Before playing 'Borrowed Time,' he also acknowledged that Felker passed him the song partially written, intending for Crockett to finish and record it.

Following 'Borrowed Time,' Crockett and his crew used every ounce of soul God had blessed them with in an intense rendition of 'Ain't Got No Time to Lose,' from his 2016 In the Night LP. Crockett charged around the stage with heart as a member of the Blue Drifters ripped out the trumpet for an encapsulating solo.

Before ending his set, Crockett played several staples of his lengthy catalog, such as: 'Jamestown Ferry,' 'Man From Waco' and 'Run Horse Run.'

There was a sense of authentic country music passion throughout Crockett's set, not only through his performance but within the audience. The scent of cheap weed and light beer paired flawlessly with the visual of rowdy swing dancers occupying the rear of the crowd.

Through each live performance, Crockett continues to build his reputation as a remarkable showman, and Extra Innings Festival was no exception.
