After teasing the track across his socials in June 2026, fans started clamouring for Brandon Lake to make ‘How Good God Is’ available to stream. A couple of months later, Lake finally confirmed he'd be dropping the soul-stirring offering on August 28th.

Lake has been treating us to a steady flow of new music throughout 2026, releasing stellar duets with Nick Jonas (‘The Author’), Lainey Wilson (‘The Jesus I Know Now’), Bailey Zimmerman (‘Just Believe’) and Cody Johnson (‘When a Cowboy Prays’).

‘How Good God Is’, however, feels like it's the cornerstone of Lake's next chapter of music. The ‘Gratitude’ hitamker has been hinting that it'll be country-leaning, but he's also confirmed there will still be some more classic Contemporary Christian Music gems on there, and ‘How Good God Is’ epitomises this.

The powerful battle-cry finds Lake reflecting on all the lows he had to go through in order to get first-hand proof of just how loving and forgiving God is. He wonders whether, if he hadn't been through this, his bond with God might not be as strong.

While many of Lake's recent singles have blurred the lines between Contemporary Christian Music and country music, ‘How Good God Is’ sticks much closer to the former. It features swelling, almost orchestral composition, with Lake's powerhouse vocals cutting through the celestial keys and rousing electric guitar riff. As he approaches the moving crescendo, he roars, “God is good” across a dramatic drum pattern, capturing the verve and spirit that underpins this anthem.

At the heart of ’How Good God Is’ is the idea of our souls being forged in the fire, in order to make us stronger and more aware of God's presence. It reflects the core message of Isaiah 48:10 in the Old Testament, where God declares, “Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction”.

Lake admits that there have been times in his journey where he has felt a host of seemingly un-Christlike emotions, such as anger and frustration. But he goes on to underline that it was the moments where he felt he was at his lowest that he felt God's presence most vividly, and he goes as far as stressing that if it wasn't for these challenging experiences, his relationship with God wouldn't be what it is now.

He uses the Biblical descriptions of God and Jesus as “Healer” and “Savior” to explain how he didn't realise he even needed healing and saving, until he had reached rock bottom.

The inspiring song serves as a deeply personal meditation from Lake on the various winding paths that have brought him to where he is today, with a deep-seated reliance on and love for God. But it's also intended as guidance for listeners who find themselves in the spiritual ‘pit’ that Lake was in, as he advises them to turn to God and trust He will help them out, rather than lean on their own understanding.
