The Background:
Appearing on Josiah Queen's widely celebrated third album, Damascus Road, ‘fire in my soul’ finds the ‘make heaven crowded’ singer-songwriter teaming up with ZVC for a powerful anthem about how their lives have been changed by Jesus. The track is joined on Queen's 2026 project by other euphoric, faith-filled fan-favourites like ‘amazing!’ with ELEVATION WORSHIP, ‘demons’, ‘judas’ and ‘out of breath’.
It features ZVC as a credited collaborator and the producer (ZVC's real name is Zac Lawson). Lawson's brother, JVKE (Jacob Dodge Lawson), is also a co-writer and co-producer.
The Sound:
‘fire in my soul’ explores a more atmospheric spin on Queen's trademark folk-leaning sound, with the ‘Dusty Bibles’ hitmaker crooning evocatively across a soaring, guitar-driven instrumental. In the post-chorus, the introduction of the rhythmic claps and the ethereal backing vocals help to accentuate the drama and gravitas of this anthem. Portions of the song feel cut from a similar cloth to OneRepublic's iconic 2013 song, ‘Counting Stars’, but with a spell-binding, faith-filled twist.
The Meaning:
‘fire in my soul’ feels like a direct continuation of ‘demons’, with Queen underlining that, in his old life, he struggled with temptation and tried to make his way in the world without any help. At that time, the devil did his best to get him to sell his soul, but before he could sign on the dotted line, Jesus stepped in and saved him.
Now that his eyes have been opened to God and Jesus’ love, he makes it clear throughout ‘fire in my soul’ that no demons will ever be able to take his soul: “Sorry, it's not for sale”.
He uses an array of visceral imagery to convey how ‘on fire for Jesus’ he is, with Queen admitting that he can't even recognise himself in old photos from before he was saved.

“Looking back at my camera roll
At a person I don't recognize
'cause Jesus broke some barriers
And He went and He changed my life
I was staying up in the late of night
And wrestling with the voices in my head
Them demons tried to take my life
But they never had a chance in the end
-
I said no, can't have my soul
Sorry it's not for sale
I've done it on my own, it only led to hell
I was chasing the wind, shivering in the cold
'Til You lit a fire in my soul
Through hell or high waters you'll never take
This fire in my soul
This fire in my soul
-
Looking back at old videos
At a person I don't recognize
Some devils tried enticing me
To sign my name on that dotted line
-
But I said no, can't have my soul
Sorry it's not for sale
I did it on my own and it only lead to hell
I was chasing the wind, shivering in the cold
'Til You lit a fire in my soul
Through hell or high waters you'll never take
This fire in my soul
This fire in my soul
-
I was staying up in the late of night
Wrestling the voices in my head
Them demons tried to take my life
But they never had a chance in the end
-
And I said no, can't have my soul
Sorry it's not for sale
I've done it on my own, it only lead to hell
I was chasing the wind, shivering in the cold
'Til You lit a fire in my soul
Through hell or high waters you'll never take
This fire in my soul
If my life is an altar then burn it up with fire in my soul”
