Biography
Alan Jackson is rightly hailed as a touchstone for steel-backed, old-school country music, with the Georgia native amassing a discography of classic earworms few can rival.
One of the most influential figures of the past four decades, Jackson emerged in the late 1980’s as the successor to George Strait's neo-traditional country music throne.
But rather than battling it out for supremacy, Jackson and Strait teamed up and established themselves as the two leading flag-bearers for this traditional-leaning sound. As country music became increasingly commercialised, with sounds and textures from other genres bleeding into Nashville, Jackson and Strait made no secret of the fact that they longed to return to the style of Hank, Merle and Jones.
They immortalised their rebellion with their cover of ‘Murder On Music Row’, which they went on to perform a number of times throughout their careers, most recently at Jackson's emotional farewell show at Nashville's Nissan Stadium in June 2026.
Jackson has amassed a truly legendary catalogue of country anthems, ranging from the wonderfully light-hearted ‘Chattahoochee’, ‘Good Time’ and ‘It's 5 O’Clock Somewhere’ with Jimmy Buffett, to the evocative ‘Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)’, which Jackson released in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
In 2011, Jackson was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, which has hampered his ability to tour in recent years. In 2026, Jackson headlined his final show, a star-studded affair at Nissan Stadium featuring cameos from Strait, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Little Big Town, Eric Church, Lainey Wilson, Carrie Underwood and more.
